Notnice Records was right in the thick of dancehall’s late-2000s run when Unknown Number landed in 2009, a 10-cut riddim session that keeps the energy tight and the focus on Gully-side names. Blak Ryno opens with the brash money talk of “I Wanna Be So Rich, ” Jah Vinci cools things down on “Mi Nuh Know, ” and Lisa Hype’s “No Sunshine” adds a sharper edge before the set tilts toward heavier territory. Popcaan’s “Mi Solider Dem” and Shawn Storm’s “Tek Life” keep the momentum up, but the real center of gravity is Vybz Kartel, who turns up three times, with “Dem Get Murder” and “Nah Lef” cutting hardest and making the riddim’s dark, taut pulse feel fully claimed.
