UNITY IS STRENGTH RIDDIM produced by TROJAN RECORDS 2022
Unity Is Strength Overview
The Unity Is Strength Riddim came together in the studio with a classic rocksteady flow. Musicians worked closely, blending live instruments and deep bass to create a warm, rootsy sound. The selector’s vision was to keep the roots reggae spirit alive, focusing on messages of unity and hope. Each artist brought their own style, but all followed the same creative direction: to deliver music that connects people and speaks about real life. TROJAN RECORDS produced the release. This legendary label started in the UK in 1968 and is famous for bringing reggae and ska to international audiences. Over the years, Trojan has released many classic albums and helped reggae music reach listeners all over the world. Desmond Dekker & The Aces open the riddim with “Unity.” Dekker is well known for his global hit “Israelites,” which reached number one in the UK in 1969. The Heptones follow with “Peace And Harmony,” bringing their signature harmonies that made them legends in Jamaica’s roots scene. Dennis Brown’s “Revolution” adds a soulful touch. Brown, called the “Crown Prince of Reggae,” had many hits over his long career, including the classic album “Words of Wisdom.” Ken Boothe delivers “Freedom Street,” a song that reflects his smooth, heartfelt style. Boothe is also known for his UK number one single “Everything I Own.” U Roy & The Jamaicans team up for “Peace And Love,” blending toasting and harmonies. U Roy helped pioneer the DJ style in reggae. Other highlights include Jackie Edwards with “Get Up,” The Maytals with “We Shall Overcome,” The Ethiopians’ “One Heart, One Love,” Delroy Wilson’s “Conference Table,” and The Melodians’ “Let’s Join Hands.” This roots drop in 2022 proved reggae’s message and sound remain strong and relevant.
