Joe Mannix’s “On Top” sets the tone for Hard Drive Ent. ’s Unity Compilation Riddim, and the rest of the eight-track set keeps that straight-ahead reggae energy moving without losing the groove. Reggie Stepper’s “Nuttn No Bother Me” and John Mouse’s “Talk Loud” give the compilation its veteran weight, while Smokey, Leon Danger and Redemption push things through a run of conscious and defiant cuts that sit neatly alongside Smogle Nation’s “Take Myself From Stress” and Tennant’s “Gideon Warrior. ” There’s a clear emphasis on message music here, with the vocals carrying the project as much as the riddim itself. Hard Drive Ent. keeps the production lean and functional, leaving space for each singer to cut through, but Joe Mannix’s opening shot is the one that lingers longest.
