Tight Clothes Riddim – Redman International

Tight Clothes Riddim is one of those late-’80s dancehall sessions that still carries a bit of swagger in the title alone, and the groove has that sharp, stripped-down Kolo Ko feel tied to the Steely, Clevie and Danny Browne camp. Johnny P’s “Tight Clothes” is the obvious anchor, but Clement Irie’s “Koloko” and King Kong’s “Where Is Your Culture” give the riddim more bite, while Thriller U’s “Love Always Find A Way” pulls a smoother, more melodic angle into the mix. It was cut in 1989, and that timing matters: this is the point where dancehall was tightening up its sound, moving with more machine-driven pressure but still leaving room for strong personalities to cut through.
