In 2018, when dancehall was packed with spare, percussion-led riddims designed for quick vocal flips, Syzzle Records cut The Ribbean Riddim with a tight four-track setup that keeps the focus on the groove. Braintear Spookie’s “Weh Dem Feel, ” Raytid’s “Give It To Yuh, ” and Sahie’s “Fluttery Feelings” each ride the same pattern with a different angle, but the production holds a crisp, bouncy edge throughout, more lean and street-ready than glossy. The project closes with Syzzle Records’ own “The Ribbean Riddim Instrumental, ” which lays the beat bare and makes the riddim’s swing and low-end weight impossible to miss.
