The Humble Riddim (2015) – Sanctionhouse Production

Sanctionhouse Production keeps this 2015 set in a straight reggae lane, but the mood is gentler and more reflective than the harder-edged one-drop or dancehall work the name might suggest. Bertland Kidd turns up twice, and “Humble Prayer” and “Lazy Girl” sit neatly alongside Lisa J’s “Lazy Boy” and Ras Ipple’s “With Pride, ” with the vocal cuts leaning into a modest, faith-conscious tone that suits the title. The riddim itself feels warm and unhurried, the sort of low-slung groove that leaves plenty of room for the singers to stretch their phrases without crowding the track, while I Martel, Ripply, and Lloyd Smith keep the sequence moving in clean, unforced fashion. There are seven tracks in all, spread across six artists, with Bertland Kidd handling two of the cuts.
