SUGAR SUGAR RIDDIM produced by KINGS OF KINGS 1998
Sugar Sugar Overview
In late 1990s Jamaica, dancehall parties were loud, energetic, and full of life. The sound systems played the latest hits, and everyone gathered to dance and enjoy the music. In 1998, a new riddim called Sugar Sugar Riddim became a favorite at these events. It was produced by KINGS OF KINGS, a well-known label in the dancehall scene. KINGS OF KINGS helped shape the sound of late 90s dancehall and brought many talented artists to the spotlight. The label is recognized for working with big names and for pushing the genre forward during that era. Sugar Sugar Riddim featured some of dancehall’s top voices. Beenie Man, already known for hits like “Who Am I (Sim Simma),” brought his unique style to the track “Real McCoy.” Iley Dread added his song “No Body,” showing his smooth delivery. Lady Saw, famous for her bold lyrics and known as the “Queen of Dancehall,” contributed “Holding On.” Mad Cobra & Michelle teamed up for the duet “Am I Making You Hot,” while Merciless, who had charted in Jamaica with “Mavis,” gave fans “How Mi Love Mi Ladies.” These songs made the riddim popular at parties and on radio. The mix, put together by skilled selectors, kept crowds moving all night. Even years later, DJs still play this classic mix, keeping the sound of 1998 alive. The Sugar Sugar Riddim remains a strong memory for those who lived through that lively time in dancehall history.
