Stress Out Riddim (2009) – Greensleeves Records

Greensleeves’ 2009 Stress Out Riddim comes out of a sharp little dancehall package rather than a crowded juggling, with just two cuts carrying the whole idea. Demarco’s “She Cah Wait” is the one that immediately grabs the ear, riding the riddim with that restless, quick-talking edge he was leaning on heavily at the time, while Mr G’s “Work Mi Ah Work” keeps the pressure on from a more straight-ahead, chant-heavy angle. The setup leaves plenty of room to hear the production itself: clean, clipped, and aimed squarely at late-night sound system movement rather than crossover polish. There’s no excess here, just two voices working the same frame from different directions, and Demarco’s cut gives the riddim its clearest personality.
