Steel Drums Riddim – Hya Klass

2017 was a busy stretch for dancehall riddims that leaned on sharper, more percussive textures, and Steel Drums Riddim sat right in that pocket with a bright, metallic lick running over the rhythm while Hya Klass kept the arrangement lean and dance-ready. Dohlance gets the most space here, turning up twice with “Pananok” and “Bully, ” and Ric Carbi’s “Wakings” and Tina Genius’ “Persistent” help give the project its shape, with the hooky “Giggle” from Dray Styles adding a lighter touch against the harder bounce. The release runs six tracks in all, with five artists across the set, which gives it that compact various-artists feel rather than a crowded compilation.
