Star Check Riddim – Free Willy Records

There’s a sharp, rub-a-dubby dancehall pulse running through Star Check Riddim, the sort of lean 2014 juggling that leaves space for the deejays to cut through without overcrowding the groove. Free Willy Records keeps the set tight with six tracks, and Iyara’s “It’s A Go” feels like the cleanest fit for that brisk, forward-moving rhythm, while Wickerman’s “Gal Mi Seh” and Shaka Pow’s “Twerk It Gal” lean harder into the dancefloor pressure. The project also surfaced a Ninjaman cut, “Book Fi Mi, ” which gives the riddim a little extra pedigree and a nod to the old-school talking style that dancehall still runs on. A small but lively release, right down to the producer’s own title track tucked at the end.
