Spy Riddim – Master Mind 2.5 1999
Spy Overview
The Spy Riddim sound system cut was released by Shocking Vibes, a label well known for shaping the dancehall scene in Jamaica. This version mixed gritty beats with the smooth flow that made late 1990s dancehall so exciting. On this riddim, you’ll hear some of the biggest names from that era. ARP brought the energy with “Bust The Place,” a track that always got the dance moving. Benzly Hype, known as a member of the group T.O.K., gave us “Me And Cous.” Lexxus Zumjay teamed up for “Ready,” while Zumjay also delivered his solo track “Before You Die.” Sean Paul, who would later win a Grammy for his album “Dutty Rock,” was already making waves with “Player Haters.” Ward 21, famous for their production skills and their own hit “Haters,” added “Ward 21 - Y2K Stylee” to the mix. The riddim itself was created by Tony “CD” Kelly, a producer respected for crafting many dancehall classics, including the “Bookshelf” riddim. His style brought together the raw and the melodic, making the Spy Riddim a true standout. For many reggae fans, this sound system cut still brings back memories of 1999, when dancehall parties were packed and every new riddim was a big event. The Spy Riddim remains a favorite for its powerful beats and unforgettable voices.
