By 2005, Speci Riddim sat squarely in that mid-2000s dancehall pocket where the beat had to leave room for the deejays to stare each other down, and this set does exactly that with a tight seven-track roll call. Anthony B opens with “Look Good, ” Beenie Man turns up with “War Dem, ” and Vybz Kartel’s “You Dont Have To Wonder” gives the sequence its sharpest edge. Anthony B, Beenie, and Kartel give the riddim three different personalities without breaking its pace, while the rest of the cast—Don Mafia, Mr Lex, Nitty Kutchie and Earthworm, and Razah—keeps the energy moving. The lineup has the feel of a producer who wanted contrast more than excess, letting each cut land cleanly before the next one steps in.
