In 2005, when dancehall was already absorbing more Trinidad and Tobago energy, Soca Escape Riddim caught that crossover moment in a pretty direct way: fast, lively, and built for the road as much as the dance. Bacchanal Records lines up a heavyweight cast here, but the sparks come from the pairings — Bunji Garlin and Benjai on “In My Brain” lean into the soca-side momentum, while Capleton’s “Better Listen Now” brings a tougher edge that cuts through the jump-up feel. Mad Cobra’s “Like War” and Mr. Lexx’s “We Dun Talk” keep the pressure on, and the Tony Curtis and Machel Montano remixes push the project even further toward carnival territory.
