Slow Motion Riddim (2021) – Evidence Music

Out of the European roots-dub corner Evidence Music was working in here, Slow Motion Riddim arrives with a proper sound-system feel: chugging bass, clipped drums, and a moody, half-stepping pulse that leaves plenty of room for the vocals. The set pairs Demolition Man’s tougher “Slow Motion” cut with Troy Berkley’s more reflective “Silent River, ” then shifts into a steppers pass with Ras Demo before closing on Demolition Man’s “Jungle Remix, ” which pushes the rhythm into sharper, faster territory. Released in September 2021 and tied to Fogata Sounds as well as Evidence Music, the project sits nicely in that era when dubwise reggae and dancehall producers were reworking one riddim in multiple versions instead of treating the instrumental as a one-note backing.
