In 2008, the Slow Down Riddim came together in a Kingston studio, built from the ground up by a team of skilled musicians. The sound architect focused on a classic roots reggae feel, using live instruments and warm basslines to create a spiritual and uplifting atmosphere. The creative direction was clear: keep the music organic and true to reggae’s roots, but give it a fresh energy for a new generation. Cj Records, the producer behind the project, has a reputation for supporting authentic reggae music. The label has worked with both new and established artists, helping to shape the sound of modern roots reggae. By 2008, Cj Records had already made a mark with several notable releases in the reggae community. The Slow Down Riddim features a strong lineup of artists. Sizzla brings his powerful voice to “Guide & Protect Me,” adding his signature energy and conscious lyrics. Sizzla is known worldwide for songs like “Thank You Mama” and has released more than 50 albums in his career, making him one of reggae’s most prolific artists. Lutan Fyah delivers “King’s Son,” blending his smooth vocals with spiritual messages. Lutan Fyah has collaborated with many big names in reggae and is respected for his consistent conscious themes. Mikey’s “Never Let Them Let You Down” adds hope and resilience to the mix.
