SLENG TENG RIDDIM produced by JAMMYS RECORDS 1985
Sleng Teng Overview
Fans gave a big welcome to this roots reggae project. People said the music felt fresh but also classic, like something you could listen to any time. The riddim’s deep sound pulled in both old reggae lovers and new listeners. At dances and on sound systems, the crowd responded with energy and respect. Each artist brought their own style. Cocoa Tea’s “Hay Bobby” showed his smooth voice and easy flow. Cocoa Tea is known for his hit “Rikers Island” and is one of reggae’s respected singers. John Wayne added his unique touch with “Call The Police,” a track that gets people moving. Johnny Osbourne came strong with “Buddy Bye,” a song that is a true dancehall anthem and helped make him a household name in reggae. Nicodemus’s “Eagles Feather” brought a classic deejay vibe, while Pad Anthony’s “Cry For Me” gave the project a soulful edge. Each song added a new flavor but fit perfectly with the riddim’s foundation. The backbone of this project is the Sleng Teng riddim, built by Wayne Smith’s “Under Mi Sleng Teng.” JAMMYS RECORDS, led by King Jammy, produced this classic. King Jammy is famous for bringing digital rhythms to reggae, and “Under Mi Sleng Teng” is one of the most influential tracks in dancehall history. Today, this riddim still plays loud on sound systems everywhere.
