“Bad Traffic” finds Lutan Fyah in the roots-and-culture mode that made his name: a singer who can turn a hard, rasping edge into melody without smoothing out the urgency. The title points to blockage and pressure, imagery that suits an artist long concerned with the social strain around everyday life, spiritual discipline and public conscience.

His vocal is the centre of gravity. Fyah phrases with the bite of a deejay at points, then stretches into a more plaintive sung line, letting the tension sit in his tone rather than forcing the song into a shout.
