Produced by Leslie Kong and tied to Beverly’s, the Shanty Town riddim first took shape in the late 1960s around Desmond Dekker and The Aces’ 007/Shanty Town, one of the defining rocksteady cuts of the era. This later version brings the rhythm back through names like Anthony B, Ambelique, Da’Ville, Dennis Alcapone, and Jah Mason, with standout selections including Anthony B’s Time For The Love and Da’Ville’s Fling It Pon Me. The set keeps the original’s sharp, street-level feel while showing how Kong’s classic Beverley’s production continued to carry through later revival and remake work.
