Shack Riddim – Bassrunner Music

Bass-heavy. Bassrunner Music’s 2013 Shack Riddim comes in as a compact eight-cut dancehall set, and the title says enough about the mood: sturdy, no-nonsense, built for the bashment. Gappy Ranks opens with “Dancehall Original, ” which gives the riddim its sharpest anthem push, while Million Stylez turns “Chatty Mouth” into one of the more pointed cuts, with Ziggi Recado’s “Can’t Cool” and Randy Valentine’s “Girls Alone” keeping the energy moving without leaning too polished. The lineup also stretches nicely across styles and accents, with New Kingston’s “Boom Boom, ” Barrington’s “Car Back, ” and Etzia’s “Tease Me” giving the project a broader pull than a straight yard session.
