Sensous Riddim V.2 – Troyton Music

Troyton Music kept the Sensous Riddim V. 2 set in the sweet spot between radio-friendly dancehall and late-night party pull-up. Released in 2017 and issued through Troyton Music with 21st Hapilos Digital, the four-song EP pairs the rhythm with Jahmiel, Gyptian, Charly Black and Dre Russ. The release date on the platform filing is April 28, 2017, which fits the wave of mid-2017 dancehall riddims that were built for streaming as much as juggling.

The riddim itself has a smooth, pliant bounce rather than a hard-edged bashment attack. The cuts ride a warm mid-tempo groove, with enough space in the drum pattern and bassline for melody, flirtation and patter. Jahmiel’s Tell Me is the most recognizable lead here, helped by Shenseea’s feature on the song version that circulated widely. Gyptian’s Wine One Me goes straight into his softer, lovers-rock delivery, while Charly Black’s Slow Motion (Te Amo Te Amo) brings the cheeky, bilingual party talk he has made his own. Dre Russ’ Give Thanks adds the rooted, appreciative tone that balances the set.

Jahmiel was one of the rising voices of the period, Gyptian brought established melody and romantic ease, and Charly Black was already a proven dancehall name with crossover pull. On Sensous Riddim V. 2, the mix works because it lets each artist play to a different angle of the same groove, giving the riddim a little more range than a standard four-cut package.
