Bunji Garlin’s “Helpless Child” gives this Rudie Riddim its sharpest opening swing, and the rest of Supersonic Sound’s 2009 cut keeps the mood moving through four straight vocal turns without ever overloading the frame. Mojo Morgan leans into “Rude Bwoy” with a tougher edge, Fayann Lyons cools things down on “Lonely Girl, ” and Benjai closes it out with “Keep It Coming, ” which has the kind of forward push that keeps a compact compilation lingering after the last note. Supersonic Sound were already building a name around tightly run productions by this point, and this one sits right in that early phase: lean, melodic, and geared toward singers who know how to ride a groove without crowding it. Garlin’s opener does the heavy lifting, though, and it leaves the riddim with its strongest aftertaste.
