Royal Ras Riddim – Black Generation Entertainment

Out of the 2021 crop, Royal Ras Riddim comes as a very lean two-track set from Black Generation Entertainment, with Tshups/Xosh Don handling both cuts: “Quick Quick” and “Royal. ” That stripped-down approach leaves the rhythm itself to do the talking, and it sounds like a tidy, mid-tempo reggae groove with enough bass weight to keep it rooted while the melodies stay bright and uncluttered. Rather than crowding the riddim with voices, the project leans on one artist to carry the mood, which gives it a focused, almost dubplate-like feel. “Royal” reads like the more measured cut, while “Quick Quick” adds a bit more urgency, and together they sit neatly in that early-2020s space where smaller, self-contained riddims were keeping the genre’s local, independent pulse alive.
