A warm, mid-tempo reggae step with a little old-school sweetness is what you hear first on Rock Di Drop, and that’s probably why Gachapan Records could tuck a Bob Andy remix alongside newer voices like I-Octane, Munga, Charly Blacks, Nesbeth and Vybrant without the thing feeling forced. The set has that clean one-riddim flow where the conscious side and the lovers side sit close together, with I-Octane’s “Why Man Kind A Gwan Do” and Munga’s “Concrete Jungle” giving it some weight while Charly Blacks and Nesbeth lean into the smoother, more melodic pull. Gachapan was still a fairly fresh name then, and this was part of that early run of productions that started getting the label noticed beyond the Japanese sound system circuit. The instrumental version sits near the end too, just before the final couple of cuts.
