Revolution Bounce Riddim – Various Artists

There’s a low-key charm to Revolution Bounce Riddim, the kind of 2007 reggae juggling that feels like it was made for sound system rotation rather than hype. Jah Messenger’s “See Dem” sets the tone with a wary, streetwise edge, and Supa Fabulous’ “Fed Up” follows that same pressure-cooker mood with a sharper, more agitated pull. Malice lightens things up on “Island Hoppin’, ” while Mystic and Farmer’s “Girlfriend” and Revelation’s “Free ‘D’ World” keep the riddim moving through a small but varied set of voices. Templeton’s “Crime To Done” sits near the end with a tougher turn, and the straight version cut closes it out cleanly, leaving the bounce in the rhythm itself.
