Return To Big Street Riddim – Big Yard Music

Big Yard’s Return To Big Street came out in 2005, part of the Riddim Driven run on VP Music Group, and it sits at a point where Shaggy’s Big Yard camp was still moving dancehall through crisp, radio-ready production. Robert Livingston is credited on the set, with Orville Burrell’s Big Yard imprint tied to the riddim’s release history. The label had already been active since the mid-’90s, and this one feels like a Kingston street-side update on that polished Big Yard sound.

The riddim itself rides a mid-tempo, head-nodding groove with a taut bassline and bright, clipped percussion that leaves plenty of room for vocals. It has that clean Big Yard sheen rather than a raw sound-system murk, which suits the mix of singjay hooks and sharper deejay cuts. Bounty Killer’s Almighty brings the heavyweight presence, while Shaggy’s Stand Up And Fight pushes the set toward an anthem feel. Voicemail’s Want To Know Your Name and Jamaican Jiggas capture the duo’s playful, youthful energy, while Tanto Metro and Devonte’s We No Skin Teeth and Zumjay’s Glass House keep the pressure up with streetwise dancehall talk.
