Out of the early-2000s dancehall run, Response Riddim sits in that lean, no-nonsense zone where the beat does the talking and the voicing keeps it sharp. The cut list is short — just Culture Dan’s “Shake Your Body Gal” and Dappa Don’s “D. a. p. p. a” — which gives the whole thing a stripped, almost test-press feel, with the two singers working the same groove from different angles. Culture Dan leans into the more playful side, while Dappa Don comes off tighter and more percussive, so the contrast between them gives the riddim its pull.
