Bunny Striker Lee, Tappa Zukie and Jo Jo Hookim’s Poor Marcus Riddim dates to 1975 and pulls together cuts for Jackpot, Stars, Hitbound and Island, with Johnny Clarke’s Poor Marcus at the center. The set also brings in Dillinger’s Selassie I, The Mighty Diamonds’ Them Never Love Poor Marcus, Tappa Zukie’s Marcus, and King Tubby’s Bag Of Wire Dub and Marcus version, which keeps the whole run locked into deep roots and dub territory. The title itself nods to Marcus Garvey, and that theme runs right through the singers and deejays here, especially on Clarke’s original and the Mighty Diamonds’ harmony cut.
