1971’s Meditation Riddim comes from Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One/Iron Side camp, a rootsy set that brings together Dub Specialist’s Depth Charge, Jackie Mittoo and The Invaders’ Love Again, and The Cyclones with Count Ossie on Meditation. Built around that classic Studio One feel, it also turns up under the Iron Side label with Dodd overseeing the production, which is why the whole thing carries that sturdy, early-’70s Kingston sound. The lineup blends instrumental depth and vocal lift, with Jackie Mittoo’s presence adding extra weight to the session and Count Ossie helping anchor the title cut’s meditative, percussive mood.
