Produced by The Now Team, Lee Scratch Perry and Bunny Striker Lee for Upsetter, Pama and Magnet in 1971, Place In The Sun Riddim pulls together a compact set of early-70s cuts anchored by David Isaacs’ Place In The Sun, Slim Smith’s A Place In The Sun and Dennis Alcapone’s Freedom Scank. Sly and Robbie with The Aggrovators add the dub-side angle with Sunny Place Dub, which helps give the riddim its lean, sunlit feel and its period-correct mix of vocal harmony, deejay style and echo-heavy studio craft. It’s a neat snapshot of the era’s crossover energy and a good fit for the classic Lee Perry/Bunny Lee orbit.
