Pitch Black Riddim (2011) – East Link Records

A dark, stripped-down dancehall pulse runs through Pitch Black Riddim, with just two cuts to carry the weight: Erup’s “Don’t Run In” and T’Nez’s “Nuh Fraid. ” East Link Records keeps the framing tight here, and that economy gives the riddim a tense, no-frills edge rather than crowding it with voices. Erup sounds especially sharp in that setting, while T’Nez leans into the same clipped menace from a slightly different angle. It’s a small 2011 release, but that’s part of the appeal: East Link was clearly more interested in mood and pressure than volume, and Pitch Black sits neatly alongside the label’s other dancehall work from that period, including Smooth Sailing, as one of those concise mid-2010s-era soundpieces built for the hardcore side of the genre.
