By 2003, Jam II Records was still working a name that dancehall fans already knew from the long-running Peanie Peanie pattern, and this edition trims it down to a tight six-cut reggae set with a sharp, no-nonsense feel. Bascom X’s “Protect Yourself” and Bugsy Malone’s “Drama” carry the riddim’s blunt edge well, while Devo Brat’s “Peenalize” and General B’s “One Phone Call” keep the energy clipped and streetwise rather than glossy. There’s a slightly tougher, leaner pulse here than on some of the older versions of the rhythm, with the voices riding the groove hard instead of crowding it. Junior Pincher and Nellos add a lighter touch on “Like We, ” and the closing version lets the bare production breathe, which is exactly how this kind of set should end.
