DJ Wycked’s Overload Riddim leans more toward a compact dancehall showcase than a sprawling producer showcase, with eight cuts and eight different voices keeping the energy tight. Released on 11 September 2021, it runs just 25 minutes, which suits the straight-ahead feel of the project and leaves little room for padding. Bb Bleu and Interlake’s “New Chapter” opens with a sense of forward motion, while Caporal Negus on “Lyrical Don” and Wyckyd J on “Bad Team” bring the tougher edge that gives the riddim its bite. The instrumental version lands right in the middle of the sequence, breaking the vocal run and underlining DJ Wycked’s control of the session before the final stretch from Fuckly, Lov’Nee, Maylan Manaza and the rest.
