Coming out of Jamaica in early 2012, Out Cry Riddim catches a sharp little moment in rootsy dancehall where big names and newer voices share the same haunting, mid-tempo pull. Beenie Man’s “Bad Luck” and Cutty Ranks’ “Can’t Tek It” give it immediate weight, while Gyptian and Tawana’s “No Weapon” and Singing Sweet and Steppa’s “Same Old Struggles” lean into the tune’s heavier, prayerful side. The sequencing is tight too, with the remix tucked in at the end instead of sitting up front. Kemistry Records keeps the whole thing to nine cuts, and the release runs just over half an hour.
