North Wind Riddim (2013) – Jamrock Vybz Records

Jamrock Vybz’s North Wind Riddim feels leaner and more focused than the bigger, noisier dancehall projects the label’s name might suggest, with just four cuts carrying a cold, breezy reggae pulse underneath the voices. The rhythm has that clean, mid-tempo sway that leaves room for the melodies to breathe, and the strongest moments come from Lutan Fyah’s “Nat Up Yuh Head” and Sizzla Kalonji’s “Fight Dem Ownself, ” two tunes that lean into uplift and resistance without turning preachy. Alexander Star’s “Home Cooked Meal” and Italo Skarcha’s “Limitless” keep the set grounded, but it’s the closing Sizzla cut that gives the riddim its hardest edge and leaves the whole thing feeling sharpened rather than padded out.
