Veteran reggae crooner Anthony Cruz treated hopeless romantics with an album of classic love song covers. Distributed via Tad’s International Records, Anthony Cruz whose government name is Rowan Smith, self-produced the 20-track album titled Under The Covers. The album was released on 28 April 2023, and continues to garner attention from reggae fans all over the world.
Speaking in an interview just after the album’s release, Anthony Cruz described his project and went on to say;
“I know it’s going to create history because it’s never been done before — a full cover version album. Jamaicans love it, people love it across the world, they love when you sing over their songs in Reggae, ‘cause Reggae have the power.”
“They [the songs] are personal favorites, definitely. It gives you a chance to show your versatility and how good your vocals are matching up to the original singers,” Cruz added.
The nephew of reggae artist Garnet Silk, Anthony Cruz is best known for tracks like Turn it Up, Halfway Tree, When You Get Lonely, Love Will Never Die, and Just Call My Name which put him on the musical radar in 1997.
