A 2004 cut from Stingray Records, New Broom Riddim feels rooted in that early-2000s UK reggae-to-Jamaica exchange, where polished roots arrangements still had plenty of bite. Glen Washington’s “Imminent Danger” and Gregory Isaacs’ “War A Gwan” give the riddim its best contrast, one more alert and driving, the other carrying that seasoned Isaacs cool over the same pulse. Peter Hunningale, Prince Malachi and Sugar Black keep the energy steady across the set, while the instrumental version lays bare the clean, springy backbone Stingray built underneath it all. There’s a nice old-broom/new-broom echo in the title too, almost as if the rhythm itself is trying to sweep something fresh into the session.
