Money House Riddim – Chimney Records

Chimney Records kept the Money House Riddim in the lane it has long made its own: crisp, glossy dancehall with enough swagger in the percussion and bass to carry both big-name voices and newer names. Released in 2017, the set pulls in Alkaline, Jahmiel, Mavado, Shenseea, Zagga, and the Flexx and Chase Cross combination, with the usual radio and raw splits on the more explicit cuts. The label, run by Jordan McClure and David Hayle, has built a reputation for polished juggling projects that travel cleanly from Jamaica to the wider diaspora.

The riddim itself has a sleek, mid-paced push, the kind of instrumental that leaves space for melody but still keeps a hard dancehall edge under the lyrics. It feels made for hook-driven, status-conscious songs, and the title tells you exactly where the lyrical terrain sits: money, ambition, class tension, and the talk around who is really living large. Alkaline’s Son Of A Queen brings his sharp, arrogant cool to the rhythm, while Jahmiel’s Strongest Soldier folds the same backdrop into a more determined, uplift-minded stance. Mavado’s Belt Buckle is the heavyweight cut here, with his darker tone and street authority giving the riddim extra bite.

Shenseea’s Yuh Lie adds a sly, playful counterweight, and Zagga’s Goal Digger gives the project another melody-led entry with a more aspirational feel. Flexx and Chase Cross keep the juggling spirit alive with Money Me Want, a reminder that Chimney knew how to balance marquee names with strong supporting voices. Taken together, Money House sits comfortably among the label’s cleaner, more radio-ready dancehall packages, but it still has enough grit to keep the street talk intact.
