Melodies Riddim – H2o Records

H2O Records kept this one lean and focused: just three cuts, all sitting on the same 2010 Melodies Riddim and all coming in at that brisk, mid-tempo bounce that leaves room for the singers to work. I-Octane opens with “Study Yuh Friend, ” a sharp little warning tune that rides the groove with real bite, while Jah Cure’s “On You” leans softer and more romantic, letting his vocals float a bit more. Jah Vinci’s “I Don’t Care” rounds it out with that younger, more restless energy he was carrying around that time. The whole thing landed in December 2010, which makes it feel like one of those late-year reggae drops that slipped in quietly but still captured three very different voices on the same clean riddim.
