Makavelli Riddim (2017) – Gyal Volume

Gyal Volume keeps the Makavelli riddim tight and hard-edged here, leaning into a stripped dancehall groove rather than loading it up with extra ornament. The cut that keeps coming to the front is Masicka’s “Nuh Fear Dem, ” which sits beside Deablo’s “True Intentions, ” Mr Peppa’s “7 Zeros, ” and Kibaki’s “Pretty and Boasty” like a neat little four-song clash, with Francisca Stoute handling the instrumental at the end. Gyal Volume Records had a fuller version of the juggling in 2021, but this 2017 run is leaner and more direct, which gives the production a sharper focus. The sequencing feels deliberate: vocals first, then the instrumental as a clean closing stamp, the kind of order that tells you the riddim itself was meant to do the talking.
