Mainiak Riddim – City Records

In 2019, when dancehall was still leaning hard into lean, club-ready riddims, City Records put out Mainiak Riddim as a tight five-track set with a clear, no-frills feel. The cut list is short but varied enough to give the pattern some life, with Diligent’s “Gwan, ” Hismajesty’s “Dangle Lion, ” and Horatio Humble’s “Wul It Out” doing the main vocal lifting alongside T-Blue’s “Bad Chick” featuring Swabo Dunwell. It’s the kind of juggling built on a stripped-back instrumental, where the hook has to ride the groove rather than fight it. City Records leaves the bare-bones riddim version in the sequence too, which underlines the project’s studio-room feel and keeps the focus on the pulse of the rhythm.
