2004 was a busy year for dancehall riddims, and Magnum P. i. sits right in that hectic mid-2000s moment with a lean, four-track set that keeps the focus on the voice and the cut. Brenty’s “Jump Up Behind De Truck” sounds tailor-made for a street-parade ride, all bashy energy and movement, while Ninja and God Father’s Asylum push “Move” with the kind of blunt, party-first delivery that era did so well. Patch and Terry Lyons’ “Blazing” and Timmy’s “Maxi Van” keep the same momentum going, so the whole thing plays like a quick snapshot of 2004 dancehall’s obsession with transport, hype, and sound-clash-ready hooks. With six artists across four tracks, it’s compact, a little rough around the edges, and very much of its time.
