Livity Riddim – Well Bright Records

Well Bright’s new Livity Riddim leans into a rootsy, prayerful dancehall pulse, with the kind of steady bassline and minor-key feel that leaves room for the vocals to carry the weight. Ishmael I’s “Only Jah Know” and Jahstylez’s “Pray Fi Mi” set the spiritual tone, while Prince Dawit’s “Days Of Old” adds a more reflective edge; I-Voltage’s “Border” pushes the energy a little harder. Well Bright and Juzwun Music keep the arrangement clean and unfussy, which suits a release that’s more about message than flash. It also feels like a useful addition to the label’s growing catalogue, following the same conscious lane that’s been running through a lot of modern dancehall riddim work, but with a sharper, more meditative lean this time around.
