Evahype Music kept Kick Off Riddim tight and to the point in 2013, the kind of small-footprint dancehall project that feels more like a producer’s calling card than a sprawling showcase. With only two cuts, Beez’s “Run Een” and Waq’s “Kickoff, ” the riddim doesn’t waste time trying to be bigger than it is; instead, it leans into a direct, performance-first format that leaves room for each voice to land clearly. The sequencing is almost minimalist, but that’s part of the appeal here, because it lets the title cut sit alongside the opener like two sides of the same studio idea rather than a crowded compilation.
