Jacqueline Riddim – Volcano Records

Produced by Henry Lawes for Volcano Records in 1981, Jacqueline pairs Hugh Mundell’s roots voice with Toyan’s African Ting on a short two-cut release that leans into that early Volcano sound. The title track is the key cut here, with Mundell’s Jacqueline carrying the set’s deepest roots edge while Toyan brings a harder deejay contrast on African Ting. Henry “Junjo” Lawes was in the middle of his most productive period around this time, and this one sits neatly beside the label’s early-80s output that bridged roots reggae and the emerging dancehall style.
