Island Power Overview
The Island Power Riddim brought together some of soca’s most exciting voices for Carnival 2019. Mr Legz and Shal Marshall teamed up on “Spoil,” adding high energy and catchy hooks. Shal Marshall is well known for his hit song “Splinters,” which was a favorite at Trinidad Carnival in 2018. Problem Child and Super Blue joined forces for “Thank God For Soca.” Super Blue is a legendary figure in soca, famous for winning the Trinidad and Tobago Road March title several times, including with his classic “Soca Baptist.” Skinny Fabulous and Destra delivered “Peep In Yo Own Bowl.” Destra is a celebrated soca artist from Trinidad, known for her powerful voice and songs like “Lucy.” Shurwayne Winchester performed “Doh Beat Up,” bringing his smooth style. He has won the Trinidad and Tobago Road March title in the past. Ricardo Drue added “Dem Crosses,” continuing his rise in the soca world with his strong vocals. The foundation for these tracks was the Island Power Riddim, created by YTM Recordz. This riddim was designed for Carnival fetes and the lively streets, with driving percussion and bright melodies that match the spirit of the season. YTM Recordz is known for crafting popular soca rhythms that become the soundtrack for Carnival celebrations. Together, these songs made the Island Power Riddim a key part of Carnival 2019. The music captured the joy, unity, and excitement that define the festival, giving fans a memorable soundtrack for the year’s biggest celebration.
