Hot Steel Riddim – Digital Vibez

Six cuts deep, Hot Steel Riddim is one of those 2015 dancehall sets that leans on veteran pull and sharp, no-nonsense titles to do the talking. Capleton opens with “Stay Suh, ” Lady Saw jumps in with the cheeky, controversy-fuelled “Scamma, ” and Bramma’s “Fashion Police” keeps the mood pointed and streetwise. Digital Vibez built this one with a clear ear for the old-school dancehall feel they were chasing at the time, with the snare and bass doing the heavy lifting instead of glossing everything over. The order of the tracks gives it a nice arc too: the big names lead the way, then Ffurious, Ceegee, and Da’Plan keep the pressure on so the riddim never loses its forward motion.
