Hot Skull Riddim – Lyrical War Records

Lyrical War Records’ Hot Skull Riddim came through in 2013 with that hard-edged, straight-to-the-point dancehall energy, a 14-song run that leans heavily on war talk, tough-guy posturing, and club-ready chatter. The cut list moves from 1natz’s “Dem Nuh Bad” and Booba Starr’s “Wuk Gyal Hard” into CJ Killawno’s “Dry Eye” in both raw and radio forms, so there’s a nice bit of contrast between the grittier street side and the more polished vocal versions. Jami Dread’s “We Nah Play” and Kid Kool’s “Dem Waa War” keep the pressure on, while Shawn Mental and Thai Stylee help widen the mood without softening it. The instrumental sits at the end as its own final stamp, but the sharpest pull here is Cj Killawno’s double appearance, which gives the riddim its most memorable edge.
