HOT ROMANCE RIDDIM produced by SWEET ANGEL 1998
Hot Romance Overview
The Hot Romance Riddim began as many street anthems do: with a late-night studio session and a clear vision. The producer, SWEET ANGEL, wanted to build a sound that would light up dance floors and stay in people’s memories. Known for working with rising and established dancehall artists in the late 1990s, SWEET ANGEL built the riddim around catchy melodies and strong vocal harmonies. The result was a mix that quickly became a bashment favorite in 1998. The first artist to bring energy to the riddim was Baby Wayne with his track, “Big Male.” Baby Wayne was already respected in the dancehall scene for his sharp lyrics and unique voice. His performance on “Big Male” added a raw, streetwise edge to the project. Lukie D teamed up with Delly Ranks for “Bashment Woman.” Lukie D is known for his smooth singing style and has worked with big names in reggae. Delly Ranks, who also did his own version of “Bashment Woman,” brought his own flavor to the riddim. Delly Ranks was already making waves with songs like “Pon Di Corner” and would later become known for both his singing and producing skills. Richie Spice’s “Monday To Sunday” gave the riddim a rootsy, uplifting feel. Richie Spice is famous for his conscious lyrics and hits like “Earth A Run Red.” His contribution helped balance the mix with positive vibes.
