Hell Riddim – Picante Music Production

Ryme Minista opens Picante Music Production’s Hell Riddim with “Armed And Dangerous, ” and that’s the right doorway into a set that feels grimy, urgent, and cut for hard-edged dancehall. Around him, RDX, Gage, Blak Sane, and Sizzla Kalonji each attack the same riddim from a different angle: RDX lean into the title cut with their usual punch, Gage goes straight for the menace on “Kill Dem, ” Blak Sane keeps the street narrative tense on “Nuh Run From Crime, ” and Sizzla closes it out with the militant lift of “Up Wid The Torch. ” The production has that spare, echo-heavy bounce that was common in the mid-2010s dancehall circuit, with room for the voices to hit hard against the drum pattern.
