Gun Hill Riddim – Quantam Productions

Gun Hill Riddim comes in with that straight-ahead rootsy feel, the kind of 2013 one-riddim set that keeps the focus on the voices and the groove instead of trying to overdecorate anything. Quantum Productions lined up 14 cuts here, and the mix of names gives it a nice cross-section: Amber Orano opens with “Get Up, ” Buggy Nhakente turns in “Be Free, ” and Empress Roli’s “Jah Unity” sits neatly beside the more reflective turns from Callie and Jadon. It’s also the sort of project where a couple of pairings add extra color — Dani G with Benjaminz, Jimmy Dan with Herbalist — without breaking the flow. The tracklist moves in a tidy run from uplift and faith into love songs and personal statements, which makes the sequencing feel deliberate rather than random.
